Case Studies » Barn Conversion to Residential Units – MJN Associates, Planning Consultants

Hesketh Ecology have worked with MJN Associates Planning Consultants for a number of years on a wide variety of projects. During 2012, MJN Associates commissioned Hesketh Ecology to complete ecological survey work on a barn complex in West Cumbria. A site inspection revealed the potential for bats and barn owls. Hesketh Ecology employ fully licenced bat surveyors who completed full bat survey work on the site and identified two species of bat roosting within the building and barn owls using the site.

A survey report entirely adequate to accompany a full planning application was produced which outlined detailed mitigation measures (including the requirement to obtain a European Protected Species Mitigation Licence). This allowed the clients to progress their planning application with no delay whilst ensuring appropriate protection for the species identified.

“We used Hesketh Ecology on this barn conversion project and found the service provided to be of the highest quality with attention to detail and client aspiration forming a key part of the final report, we would use them again (and do!)” – Bob Metcalfe MD of MJN Associates, Planning Consultants
