Case Studies » Northern Gas Networks Emergency Gas Pipe Repair

Hesketh Ecology was commissioned by Northern Gas Networks to oversee emergency repair works to a gas pipe which runs through a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on the Solway Coast. As an SSSI, the site is afforded strong protection and is also home to an important population of natterjack toads (Bufo calamita) which are a European Protected Species.

Hesketh Ecology employ fully licenced natterjack toad surveyors and were able to attend site at very short notice, conduct a full survey of the works area and produce a method statement which was subsequently validated by Natural England. Protection measures were put in place to mitigate and minimise all ecological impacts and works on site were overseen by an Ecological Clerk of Works.

Northern Gas Networks were able to complete the emergency works on time and within budget and have subsequently used this successful project for external publicity.
